The labor force in the country continues to be dominated by males and the traditional gender labor division continues to exist. More men are hired in occupations that require physical strength while more women are hired in administrative and office jobs.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), in 2016 there were 41,998,000 employed persons in private households, private establishments, government and government-controlled corporations. The data excluded those who were self-employed, freelancing, or hired as contractuals. Among those employed, only 15,963,000 or 38.9 percent are women.
